I'm always a little nervous about an author's second novel, especially when the debut novel is so superb. However, Chris Hauty crushed his second novel, Savage Road, after a phenomenal first book of the series, Deep State.
The debut novel blew me away, and I didn't think it would be possible for Hauty to write as good of a follow-up. But wow, did he ever! This novel is packed with action and mystery, and Hayley Chill is a dynamic, interesting, intriguing, and badass protagonist. As with the first novel, this book weaves through many twists and turns, and we get to see Chill develop tremendously.
I felt that this book delved deeply into Chill's personality, showing pieces of her past that really assist in rounding her out as a character. She is arguably the most lethal and brilliant character, let alone females, in the thriller genre.
This is a fantastic thriller, and if you haven't, make sure you read the debut as well! These are two great novels that you won't want to miss!
