Reading The Island is like taking a trip to Disneyland. Heart pounding action, high levels of anxiety, a constant sense of imminent danger, and at least someone in the group making smartass remarks. Basically… it is AWESOME.
*The previous paragraph should make more sense when you read the book… which you should… as soon as humanly possible.
The entire premise of a terrorist attack on NYC may seem a bit cliché, but Ben Coes absolutely blew me away with the scale, tactics, and believability of the attack on Manhattan and the UN. With a multi pronged attack, we are able to follow a trio of individual Tier One operators as they try to put a stop to the carnage in the streets.
Coes’ main protagonist Dewey Andreas, along with fan favorite Rob Tacoma, and a surprising financial genius/NOC (didn’t see that coming) have to fight their way block by block to their designated targets, dodging Hezbollah shooters on what seems like almost every corner.
If you are looking for a novel packed with violence, destruction, and an incredibly interesting plot… this is the book for you. I’ve read a fair amount of books this year and this is absolutely among the best of them.
If I could pick one book in 2021 to instantly be made into a Hollywood blockbuster… this is it.
