Shadow of Doubt is a smörgåsbord of action and intrigue. There is more than enough espionage and explosions for fans to feast on from start to finish. Like a three star Michelin chef, Brad Thor selects only the finest ingredients to add to his thrilling recipe, accenting each chapter with a perfect pairing of physical and psychological dangers.
When a mysterious cargo plane leaves a Russian airfield flanked by their deadliest fighter jets, every intelligence agency in the Western world goes on high alert. With the eyes of every analyst focused on figuring out what had been transported, a single French agent is unraveling a catastrophic conspiracy that could prove to be even deadlier while Scot Harvath, having been forced back into action, must decide between his morals or his mission.
Don’t let the title confuse you, there is absolutely no uncertainty to Thor’s place among the very best writers in the genre. This is the most dynamic and well rounded thriller in the series.
Of the 20+ books in this series, the latest installment proves Thor is a thriller alchemist. It’s as if he looked at the various characteristics that have made individual books in his series great and combined them into something uniquely riveting in this story.
I swear it seems that someone dared him to see if he could craft action sequences in a wide range, but equally awesome settings… and he did. The fact that he did that while also basing the overall plot on historical events is even crazier in my book and shows why he is at the very top of his game.
The title of the book also hit me a little bit differently after I finished. It ended on a bit of a cliffhanger and left me with some very specific (if not concerning) questions about the future of one of my favorite series. In that spirit… if you want to find out what that is… you’re going to have to get yourself a copy.
