This is the fourth installment in the Ahriman Legacy series, featuring former intelligence officer Petra Shirazi and the Ahriman, a reformed assassin. The pair are attempting to live a normal life in Paris, when a former CIA colleague renters their lives threatening to expose long buried secrets if they do not assist her in tracking down a former team member turned mole. Intel points to the rogue agent setting up shop in Burundi working for the Chinese as they look to secure a massive energy project in the East African country. As they inevitably are in the world of politics and power, things are never what they seem.
Guha utilizes her personal and professional experience to make the places she describes seem to jump off the page. Her unique worldview and perspective on the inner workings of politics and power dynamics of the region, coupled with a succinct and efficient writing style makes this entire series a must read for espionage thriller fans.
