The world has changed since readers were first introduced to the incomparable Mitch Rapp. With the War on Terror all but finished and the United States fracturing along imaginary political lines, the premier counterterrorism agent finds himself short on purpose and unsure of how his future might take shape. President Anthony Cook sees Rapp as a real danger, not just politically, but to his actual life. Irene Kennedy manages to broker an uneasy truce in which Mitch must leave the country, but Cook and his minions will leave him alone.
However, the truce is too fragile to hold when Cook’s sycophant of a security adviser convinces him Rapp is not a man he can let live if he wants to stay in power. With an ingenious plan of leaking Claudia Gould’s real identity to her enemies who thought her dead, the President has a plan to neutralize Mitch without his fingerprints showing up.
Like all the best laid schemes of men, the universe has other thoughts on the matter. When a new breed of assassin, known as Legion, is hired by one of Claudia’s enemies, Rapp is forced to adapt to the increasingly dangerous situation and try to find a way to turn the tables to his advantage. Not an easy task against a highly creative killer who has never failed.
This is the type of book that catapults an iconic series in a new and fantastic direction. Kyle Mills is taking the Mitch Rapp series boldly into the future and there is absolutely no one I’d rather see in command.
