Divided States is a fun and action packed work of speculative fiction that keeps readers engaged through a combination of ever increasing threat levels and unravelling the mysterious history of former detective Lori Young.
After surviving a coordinated attack, Lori is kidnapped in the attempt to force her ex-husband and his security team into hijacking a nuclear weapon. Put into an impossible situation and unsure who is working for which side, Lori is hell bent on helping and must dig into her traumatic past to call upon the skills she’s been honing for a lifetime.
Complete with shootouts, hand to hand combat, and vehicles operating in whiteout conditions, the action is constant as the story progresses. While all that is happening, the reader is left deciding who can be trusted and which operatives from which of the new nation states they are rooting for.
With solid pacing, good writing, and interesting characters, I hope Divided States is the start of a series featuring Lori Young and crew.
