As Stilwell investigates his original case, it quickly bubbles up to reveal a conspicuous connection to the recently discovered body. Not one to sit on the sidelines, Stilwell launches his investigations on both fronts, following the dangerous threads of the cases to the point of intersection marred by danger.
Connelly aptly builds this narrative as a slow-burn with ample time for readers to get a great feel for Stilwell as a charming protagonist. He’s the right blend of a rule-follower and a rule-breaker for the right and admirable moments that are explored wonderfully in both the small and big moments throughout the narrative. The efficiency of each plotline to advance the story with a simmering pace, woven expertly by Connolly to intersect at the most impactful moments.
