Detective Brock Justice is in a new setting working for the Maine State Police. He was transferred to the Major Crimes Unit in Northern Maine following unsavory behavior resulting in a suspicious murder at the hands of another officer. Justice is trying to gain his footing when he gets tasked with supporting an investigation into the death of a man handcuffed to a submerged snowmobile.
Teamed up with junior Detective Chloe Wright, Justice wades through the murkiness and death that seems to follow the two. Battling limited information in a relatively new locale with inexperience leads Justice to guard his information and suspicions, causing even more confrontation. He must navigate the hand he’s been dealt and work to ensure that Justice is served and the people responsible are held accountable.
Crimson Thaw is suspenseful and extremely entertaining. Coffin’s Detective Justice debut hits all the right notes at all the right times. His writing style is creative as he weaves Juctice’s ups and downs through the twists and turns of a murder investigation. He captures authenticity in law enforcement from a weathered outcast as well as through the lenses of a rookie investigator trying to make a name for herself.
