Near Dark By Brad Thor

I have been a huge Brad Thor fan for years following my first reading of Lions of Lucerne. I have always been able to give Thor rave reviews because of his creativity, dedication to detail, and the ability to create intrigue out of this air. So with that, this fell short of the bar that Thor has set for himself.

Thor has been on some amazing trips, he's been able to create Harvath as a larger than life character with the wits do outsmart anyone, the physicality to do it that way, and the team to help put him in the position to save the day.

Harvath is an easy character to get along with. He's a badass American that is hellbent on making things right. The actions scenes are never boring or dull. Thor has done his research and makes the fights like Saturday UFC matches that you won't want to miss. Although this isn't the 9th inning down three grand slam we've come to expect from Thor this is still a great read.

Savage Son By Jack Carr

I was fortunate to receive an ARC from the publisher for this amazing thriller, and it exceeded every expectation I ever though I had.

Jack Carr is a been there, done that kind of guy. As a decorated Navy SEAL, he has been in the thick of it. But one of the best things about his writing is that the pictures he paints with words are so vivid. This is a literal non-stop, action packed, page turning thriller that I am finishing up my second reading in as many weeks. The amount of detail, intrigue, and real world feelings that he puts into this book are amazing. I have been impressed with his work since The Terminal List and True Believer, but this takes it to a whole new level. His writing has improved and this is dedication to being one of the best authors in the game is going to make this a New York Times Bestseller. Congrats Jack, BZ sir, this is outstanding and I have this as one of my all time favorite reads!!!!

James Reece is a simple man. you do him wrong, he will deal wrong to you in more ways than you could imagine. After the trials and tribulations of being all but blown up overseas, losing his family to a group of gangbangers, and losing his entire team in the SEAL community he goes overseas again but this way to get away, start a new life afar. That doesn't even last long as he's quickly sought out to help in the fight against extremists and terrorists who have been targeting innocent civilians again. Even a wayward CIA officer is in on the crimes and will pay his dues.

This brings us to Savage Son. The point in James Reece's life where he wants to relax, kick back, enjoy a little down time after being targeted and having his life ripped apart. Carr brings the story to life with amazing picturesque mountain ranges, beautiful wood cabins, and the joy of a tremendous brotherhood with Raif Hastings. He's got a girlfriend, he's got friends that are more like family and he's got a few bad guys trying to kill him. The vacation ends in a hurry and Carr brings the badass that Reece is out to play as he battles to save his friends and then conducts one of the most brutal interrogation scenes a man can handle, or really, not handle. This story takes you all over the globe, shows the true viciousness of James Reece and what he's willing to do for family! Don't miss this one, I wish there were more than 5 stars because this is a New York Times Bestseller!!

Fight Fight By Kevin Miller

kevin-miller-fight-fight-best-thriller-books-chris-miller.jpg

Decorated Tactical Naval Aviator Kevin Miller has seen the world from the cockpit of many fighter planes. That is what makes this modern day geopolitical thriller tick from beginning to end.

The amount of detail in this is outstanding as Miller uses his countless hours of flight, hundreds of aircraft carrier landings, and combat training to produce one of the best books with aerial combat in a real life game of Battleship. The story follows military strategy worldwide with sea, land, and air assets that the United States uses to try and dissuade the perpetrators from continuing their unconventional attempt at dominance. American military units worldwide are attacked continuously and viciously. Overwhelming odds continue to build against CAG Wilson and the groups involved with trying to stop the Chinese advances to claim portions of regulated international waters. Multiple characters, hero and villain, are given plenty of facetime and this enables you to fully immerse yourself into the different locations through different perspective easily.

The South China Sea is a highly contested piece of real estate in real life. What happens when the United States is abruptly but intentionally attacked by a weapon of unknown origin? With the state of American political tension being so high, how do you think people would react to the vicious and malicious deaths of a number of American service members for a piece of land that is worlds away doesn't affect them directly? Have you ever thought about how the media is Johnny on the spot with news reporting to be the first to deliver a message to the American people? Have you thought about how this could affect the lives of the military members that are down range in peril? These are all questions that are asked, and answered but with the amazing amount of detail and authenticity Miller infuses into this one makes it one that you don't want to pass up.
